Four robbery with violence suspects sentenced to death in Kirinyaga

A court in Kirinyaga County has sentenced four suspects to death after they were found guilty of robbery with violence.

The accused; Isaak Kariuki, Kennedy Gachoki, James Gitonga and Christopher Bundi, are alleged to have killed two people and seriously injured two others at a nightclub in Ndindiruku, Mwea East sub-county.

They were charged that on July 1, 2018 armed with an AK47 rifle they robbed Margaret Wanjiku Mwangi of Ksh.200,000 and killed her alongside Stephen Muriithi Mwangi.

The court also heard that the four also shot and maimed James Kimani and Kelly Nyawira, who can no longer fend for themselves.

Wanguru Principal Magistrate Gideon Mutiso ruled that the suspects had not shown any remorse despite committing the serious crime.

“I find the convicts have no respect for others and even upon being given an opportunity for mitigation, they continue to deny having committed the crime which the prosecution and the witnesses proved beyond reasonable doubt,” Mutiso ruled.

The four have 14 days to appeal.
