Gachagua seeks job opportunities for Kenyans in meeting with German Mayor

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua with Mayor Michael Worle of Gersthofen City on Sunday, October 29.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has unveiled a strategy to strengthen Kenya's devolution efforts by launching collaborative initiatives with advanced counties and cities both domestically and internationally.

Gachagua announced the meeting with Gersthofen City Mayor Michael Worle in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, October 29, highlighting the promising start to a collaborative journey.

Gachagua emphasised that his diplomatic mission to Gersthofen City, Germany, was a watershed moment in fostering partnerships aimed at revolutionising service delivery and stimulating economic growth within Kenya's devolved units.

The Second in Command highlighted Kenya's ongoing commitment to seek new partnerships while reinforcing existing ones, all in pursuit of national development and new opportunities for the greater good.

“The Mayor of Gersthofen His Worship Michael Worle hosted me and the delegation which included my Spouse H.E Pastor Dorcas Rigathi and Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie for exploration of areas of partnership between the Gersthofen City and our counties under the twinning programme,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua praised Gersthofen City, which has already embarked on a transformative journey with Kisumu City County and Baringo County.

He expressed appreciation for the progress made, particularly in addressing critical issues such as pollution control and water scarcity.

"We appreciate the progress made so far in controlling pollution addressing water shortage, among others," Gachagua stated.

Gachagua also emphasised that the foundation of the partnership is the transfer of critical skills, which is made possible by higher education centres and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions.

According to the deputy president, the strategic focus is expected to pave the way for increased employment opportunities, empowering Kenya's vibrant youth.

He also shed light on the ongoing negotiations for a bilateral labour agreement, which could facilitate the export of Kenyan labour to other countries in addition to luring foreign direct investment.

He expressed optimism about the future, stating, "We look forward to more job opportunities in Foreign Direct Investment apart from export of labour from Kenya under the ongoing negotiations on the Bilateral Labour Agreement."

The DP had left the country on Monday, October 24, for Belgium and Germany to attend the Global Gateway Forum.

The forum seeks to fortify relations between the European Union (EU) and its partners, including Kenya, in key sectors such as digital innovation, green energy, transport, healthcare, and education, further underlining Kenya's commitment to global progress.
