Governor Ole Ntutu to settle Ksh.600K hospital bill for brothers injured in bomb explosion
A
day after Citizen TV highlighted the plight of two brothers admitted at the
Tenwek Hospital after
accidentally detonating an abandoned bomb in Narok, Governor
Patrick Ole Ntutu has now committed to foot their Ksh.600,000 medical bills.
The
boys, aged 6 and 12, escaped death by a whisker on December 9, 2022 after a
suspected abandoned explosive ordnance that they were playing with exploded,
leaving them with life-threatening injuries.
The
siblings were rushed to the Narok County Referral Hospital following the
incident before later being transferred to Tenwek for specialised treatment
owing to their injuries.
Locals
claim that in the 1980s, members of Kenya's armed forces used the site where
the bomb detonated to carry out military drills.
Speaking
after a closed door meeting with the security team led by County Commissioner
Isaac Masinde on Wednesday, Governor Ntutu stated that the boys will be cared
for, as he assured residents that military personnel are already combing the
area in a bid to recover any unexploded bombs.
The county boss likewise urged scrap metal dealers in the area to hand over any suspected explosive devices that they might have come across to relevant authorities for disposal.
“We are appealing to the members of the public to immediately report to area chief and security officers should they come across any suspicious looking device.”
His sentiments were shared by Mr. Masinde who added that 24 bombs had since been recovered by the aforesaid military personnel.
Nenkai
Ole Kunkuru, the father of the injured boys, on his part thanked Governor Ntutu
for the kind gesture noting that he would not have been able to foot his sons'
medical bills were it not for the intervention.
