The government has announced the disbursement of Ksh.48.8 billion to schools across the country.
In a tour of Kakamega County on Friday, Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi said the delay in releasing the funds to schools before opening last week, was due to debt servicing by the government.
"School administrators don't panic, Treasury will release Ksh.48.8 billion which is 50 per cent of this year's budget to fund our education system. We believe our education is important for our social function," Mbadi said.
Mbadi made the announcement, a day after the Kenya Union of post-primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Ministry of Education, to release the capitation funds.
