This is after the High Court in Eldoret on Thursday lifted orders issued earlier barring IEBC from concluding the exercise on November 2 as scheduled pending hearing and determination of a petition filed in court.
A petitioner; Patrick Cherono, had filed a case seeking for the extension of the mass voter registration period for three months, citing the low number of newly registered voters.
High Court judge Justice Eric Ogola on Thursday ordered the lifting of the conservatory orders on the continuation of enhanced voter registration, with effect from Friday, November 5 at 5:29 PM.
IEBC had appealed against the High Court ruling that blocked the closure of the one-month-long enhanced voter registration exercise arguing that it had no budget for the exercise.
Through its advocates Moses Kipkogei and Mwangi Kang’o, IEBC indicated that it had no funds to continue with the registration process which it said costs Ksh.42 million daily.
The commission further said that out of the Ksh.4 billion it had requested from the government, it only secured Ksh.1.2 billion.
The matter will be mentioned on November 9.
