The Kenya Green Building Society (KGBS) has officially launched its Annual Conference, a key event in the sustainable development calendar, under the theme ‘Creating a Sustainable and Inclusive Tomorrow: Innovating the Greenprint for Our Urban Future.’

The conference, taking place between September 4-5, 2024 at the Radisson Blu in Nairobi's Upper Hill, brings together over 200 stakeholders from the built environment sector, including government officials, sustainability experts, and industry leaders.

KGBS CEO Nasra Nanda emphasized the importance of the event, highlighting its role in driving forward the sustainability agenda in Kenya and beyond.

“This conference is more than just a gathering; it’s a movement towards a sustainable and inclusive future for our rapidly urbanizing country,” she stated.

The two-day event features a robust programme, including panel discussions, workshops, and an awards ceremony, all centered on innovative approaches to urban development.

Topics covered include sustainable housing, energy efficiency, waste management, and the integration of smart city technologies.

A key highlight of the conference is the launch of Kenya’s roadmap for sustainability in the built environment, presented by Eng. Maurice Aketch on behalf of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome.

The roadmap aims to integrate sustainable practices across all aspects of urban development, from financing and construction materials to city planning and policy-making.

The conference will conclude with site visits to notable sustainable projects, including East Africa’s first IFC EDGE Green Certified University, Aga Khan University, and Roam Electric's E-mobility plant, showcasing practical applications of sustainable practices.

The KGBS Annual Conference 2024 is expected to be a defining moment for Kenya’s urban development, setting the stage for future green and resilient cities across Africa.
