Kenya Power reveals cause of countrywide outage as restoration continues

Kenya Power says the outage witnessed across various parts of the country on Thursday was caused by a fault at the Isinya Substation in Kajiado.

In a statement issued at around 5.30pm on Thursday, Kenya Power said the fault is being addressed by engineers from the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO).

"The cause of the system disturbance has been identified and is being addressed by KETRACO engineers, while our technical teams are working on the restoration of power supply to the rest of the country," reads the statement.

On the power restoration progress, the electricity distribution company said power had been restored in parts of Western, South Nyanza, North Rift, Central Rift and Nairobi.

"We will communicate the progress of the restoration exercise in subsequent updates," said Kenya Power.

The Isinya substation where the fault occurred is connected to the Olkaria geothermal fields through the Suswa substation.
