Kenya records 127 new COVID-19 cases, positivity rate rises to 16.6%

The Ministry of Health on Thursday said 127 people tested positive for COVID-19 out of a sample size of 763 tested in the past 24 hours, marking a positivity rate of 16.6 per cent.

Of the cases, 61 are males while 66 are females; the youngest is a one-year-old and the oldest is 87 years.

Total confirmed positive cases are now 340,114 out of 3,927,744 cumulative tests conducted.

The infections were distributed across various counties as follows:  Nairobi 97, Kilifi 10, Kisumu 7, Kiambu 6, Siaya 2, Garissa, Kakamega, Kericho, Kirinyaga and Nakuru had one case each.

At the same time, 34 patients recovered from the disease pushing the total recoveries to 333,469.

No deaths were however recorded within the said period, hence cumulative fatalities stand at 5,678.

“There are 16 patients currently admitted in our health facilities, while 951 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program," noted Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha in a statement to newsrooms.

On the vaccination front, the ministry noted that 22,627,957 vaccines had been administered across the country as of November 9th 2022, with 18,283,611 being doses administered to the adult population (18 years and above).

In the last 24 hours, the ministry recorded that 13,128 vaccines had been administered while the total number of people fully vaccinated in the same period was 2,835.

An additional 2,711,916 are doses administered to those between 12 to below 18 years while 1,632,430 are booster doses,” said the Health CS.

“Proportion of adults fully vaccinated was 36.3%. The Government is working towards vaccinating a targeted population of 27,246,033 people. I Thank You.”
