Kenyan mother, daughter found dead inside food truck in Finland

The bodies of two Kenyan women were on Thursday last week discovered inside the back of their food truck by police in Tahko, Finland.

Catherine Anyango, 43, and her daughter Michelle, estimated to be in her twenties, were found dead on February 9, a day after their kin alerted local authorities that the pair failed to return home from a routine trip to sell samosas in Nilsiä town a week earlier.

Police believe that the mother and daughter passed away owing to carbon monoxide poisoning since they allegedly decided to seek shelter in the van, to protect themselves from the below-freezing temperatures of Tahko, after concluding operations on the day of the incident.

"Sad news is Michelle and her mom have passed away. According to police, the issue doesn't indicate any criminal activity. They were found dead in their van after disappearing for 7 days. Carbon monoxide poisoning is suspect. Issue under investigation," Johnson Skoda, a frequent customer of the pair, said on Twitter.

The pair's kin has since asked well-wishers to assist them in footing transport costs so that they can send back the bodies of the pair to Kenya for burial.
