Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu has called on the government to ensure that the capitation funds for schools are released on time.

Oyuu who was speaking in Migori County on Sunday said Competency Based Education (CBE) can only succeed when the schools get the money in time and the sufficient amount of money.

He said school head teachers are struggling to run the schools because the government has been sending money to schools very late hence compelling them to borrow money to run the schools.

The KNUT SG said head teachers are having mental health challenges because of running schools where there are no funds.

Oyuu has also indicated that the current head teachers manning both the primary and junior secondary school must remain the heads as was recommended by the presidential taskforce on education reforms.

He said the government must not think of bringing other people to run the junior secondary schools.
