Students of Katoloni High School in Machakos
County were on Sunday picked from the institution by parents after Saturday
night’s inferno that razed a whole boys' dormitory.
Speaking after the release of the students,
Margaret Mwirigi the County TSC director said the dormitory is host to 193
students and was burned down consuming beds and students’ belongings.
No student was hurt in the 9 p.m. incident
as they were all in class for their evening preps.
Mwirigi said some students due to trauma
and shock were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment and
counselling.
She called on well-wishers to support the
school and added that the school board is in talks with Education Ministry
officials to chat the way forward.
Mwirigi confirmed that the school wasn't
closed only that the parents had picked up their children for counselling and
should be back by Tuesday for learning.
She assured parents that investigations are
underway and all those who were involved in one way or the other will be
brought to book.
