Man who died in 2018 finally buried after well-wisher offset Ksh.450K hospital bill

Samuel Masumba buried 4 years after he succumbed to cancer.

A family from Jasho area in Nguumo, Makueni County, has finally buried their kin after his body, which has been held for four years over a Ksh.450,000 hospital bill, was released after a well-wisher settled the amount.

Samuel Masumba succumbed to cancer in May 2018 while being treated at Mbagathi Hospital and the family was unable to collect the body at the Chiromo Mortuary due to the bill.

Speaking on Saturday at the burial ceremony, Mango Muteti, the family spokesperson, said the past 4 years have been tough for the family, adding that laying their loved one to rest is a relief for them.

The family asked the government to put in place strategies to ensure that poor families are given the opportunity to bury their relatives when they die and fail to pay hospital expenses.

Masumba died aged 43.
