The Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition has today launched its 10-point manifesto dubbed Mwamko Mpya.

In a colorful event held at the Nyayo Stadium, multiple political parties under the Azimio umbrella convened to witness the launch of the roadmap to Raila Odinga’s first 100 days in office if elected the fifth president of Kenya.

Within the manifesto is a pledge to provide a universal basic income dubbed ‘Inua Jamii, Pesa kwa jamii’, which will give Ksh.6,000 to 2million needy households across the nation.

This, Raila Odinga says is not a handout but an investment and a foundation for a new transformational value chain that will also trigger massive economic activity and create thousands of localized small-scale businesses and enterprises across the country.

Speaking to Citizen TV after the launch of their manifesto, Raila Odinga’s running mate Martha Karua said providing the Sh 6,000 to needy households is something doable.

“It is roughly 120 to 150 billion in a year. Remember we are losing over 800 billion to corruption…there is money, and we will be able to do these things. We did not just pick these things from the air. This has been brought by experts, we will do it,” Karua said.

The Narc-Kenya party leader added that the Azimio government however intends to contain the rising debt ceiling by restructuring the financial sector.

“We will ensure funds allocated are used optimally and for the intended purpose, not ending up with a few billionaires. Debt is not bad, but the first step is efficiency to use what we have,” she said.
