A single vote is what gave Richard Itambo the much-coveted win for the member of the county assembly in Kinango, Kwale County.

The 36-year-old father of two who was vying on a UDA ticket trounced 16 aspirants in the August 9 General Election.

He defeated his predecessor and his biggest competitor Raphael Bavu who got 1546 votes, one vote behind Itambo. His political journey started nine years ago, he tried his luck in 2013 and 2017 unsuccessful.

“I vied in 2013 and 2017 successfully, but I thank God because I won this time round even if it was with one vote. I believe that a single vote is a magic vote that indicates every vote is important,” he said.

Itambo credits his success to his wife who campaigned beside him. Today, he is happy the people of Kinango believed in him.

“I feel proud because it was a tough race, I won with one vote that clearly shows it was a tough race, I know it's a huge responsibility but I am ready to work,” he said.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Catherine Itambo notes how crucial the win was for the people of Kinango and her husband.

"It is the third time my husband has vied for a political seat, I was hopeful he would win this time round because our campaign was much better than the previous ones, we will not disappoint our people,” she said
