The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has warned the public against people who are impersonating Ministry of Education officials and demanding for audit reports from schools.
“The said individuals are reportedly demanding audit reports from Principals of Secondary Schools, ahead of the alleged impromptu visits by Cabinet Secretary for Education Dr. Fred Matiang’i in their schools,” read a statement by the Ministry’s communication officer Kennedy Buhere.
According to the Ministry, the individuals are ready to provide unsolicited advice to School Heads on what to do to cover for improper books of accounts in the event that the CS makes an impromptu visit.
The statement adds that the conmen have secured cell phone contacts of school principals and are now calling them to provide ‘consultation’.
The Ministry has advised principals to act cautiously to avoid being duped.
“The Cabinet Secretary’s office has not tasked any official to contact School Heads. The tours he is making to the school are meant to help him appreciate the teaching and learning environments teachers and students operate in.”
Buhere reiterated that the random tours were aimed at helping the Cabinet Secretary and top Education Management to appreciate the problems and challenges schools face, providing possible solutions and help school managements find solutions to problems that could be impeding effective and efficient delivery of education services to learners.
The Cabinet Secretary has in the past insisted that the random visits are geared at fact finding and at seeking faults out of learning institutions.
