Murang’a Residents Demand Removal Of Contractor

The residents are claiming that the contractor, Nyoro Construction Company had failed to complete work on a 41-km road, two years after being awarded the project.
Members of the committee led by their chairman Maina Kamanda held talks with the irate residents of Gitugi location who are unhappy over the alleged delays.
Sources say the company has been awarded to repair St Mary-Gitugi-Mioro road and has already received Ksh 300 million from the Kenya Rural Highways Authority but work is still far from over.
Kamanda warned the Kenya Highway Authority and Kenya Rural Highways Authority against awarding contracts to companies that have pending contracts.
The Starehe MP also said that there was need for sanity to be restored in the construction sector and added that blacklisted companies should not be awarded contracts.
At Gitugi market, Mathioya MP Clement Wambugu was heckled by the residents who blocked him from addressing them forcing Kamanda to intervene.
Last week, the residents took to the streets to protest against another contractor who has been on site for two and a half years and has literary not done anything causing businessmen to incur huge loses.
They accused the contractor of delaying completion of the road despite Ksh 2.4B being allocated for the project.
