The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has seized cannabis worth an estimated Ksh.1 million following a late-night, intelligence-led operation in Molo Town.

The multi-agency operation, conducted on Monday, March 2, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m., involved NACADA enforcement officers working jointly with counterparts from the National Police Service (NPS) based in Molo.

Acting on specific intelligence about a suspected drug trafficker transporting a substantial consignment of cannabis, officers mounted surveillance in the Munju area of Molo Town. They identified a white Toyota Probox matching the description provided in the tip-off and moved in to intercept it.

Upon noticing the officers, the driver reportedly made a sudden U-turn in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting a short pursuit. During the chase, the suspect threw three large sacks from the moving vehicle before speeding off into the darkness.

Officers recovered the abandoned sacks and escorted them to Molo Police Station for safe custody and preliminary examination. The sacks were found to contain approximately 200 “brooms” of cannabis, each with an estimated street value of Ksh 500, bringing the total estimated value of the seizure to Ksh 1 million.

The suspect remains at large, and police have launched a manhunt as investigations continue to identify and dismantle the wider supply network behind the consignment.

Following the operation, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr Anthony Omerikwa commended members of the public for providing the intelligence that led to the successful seizure.

“This operation in Molo demonstrates the critical role citizens play in supporting law enforcement efforts,” he said, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to sustained, nationwide crackdowns on narcotics and psychotropic substances.

NACADA stated that enforcement operations will continue across the country as part of broader efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect communities, particularly young people, from the harmful effects of substance abuse.
