Church leaders, led by Bishop Francis Kamau of Christian Outreach, expressed concern that the ongoing conflict in the Arab world could have far-reaching economic consequences for developing nations such as Kenya, which rely heavily on the region for oil and other key commodities.
Bishop Kamau warned that a prolonged conflict could adversely affect Kenya’s economy.
He also cautioned against the misuse of social media to inflame tensions, urging Kenyans to instead use digital platforms to promote peace and unity.
At the same time, Andrew Mwangi, Director of Narokline Services Limited, echoed the call for calm, noting that Kenya imports vehicles, fuel and textiles from Dubai and exports agricultural produce to the region.
He warned that instability could disrupt trade, leading to increased vehicle prices and higher transport fares, ultimately burdening ordinary citizens.
Mwangi further appealed to other G8 countries to intervene and help reconcile U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran in order to prevent further escalation.
The leaders also cautioned Kenyan youth against politicising the conflict on social media, warning that such actions could have unintended consequences.
