Residents of Basuba village, located within the Boni Forest in Lamu County, were on Friday night forced to stay awake and alert after more than 60 Al-Shabaab militants stormed the area, opening fire indiscriminately.

It is reported that around 9pm, some of the attackers launched their assault while others surrounded the General Service Unit (GSU) security camp stationed in the area.

The officers reportedly managed to engage the militants for over an hour before they ultimately retreated.

Villagers recounted their terrifying ordeal, stating that the attackers fired four Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) rounds into the village and the security camp.

One of the rockets struck a home, causing panic as residents scrambled to the ground to avoid the incoming projectiles.

The situation transformed their peaceful night into one of chaos and fear, as they desperately sought to protect themselves from the assault.

No fatalities or injuries have been reported so far, and security agencies have intensified operations in the region, with boots on the ground actively pursuing the assailants.
