One child killed, 9 others injured in Makueni road crash

One child was killed and ten others injured following an accident at Kiangini area on the Wote - Makindu road on Thursday morning.

The children were said to have been heading to school when the bus they were travelling in lost control and veered off the road.

A five-year-old PP1 pupil succumbed to injuries, while 10 others were rushed to the Makueni County Referral Hospital for treatment.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus was allegedly being steered by an unlicensed driver who was also injured during the accident.

Dr. Joseph Masila, the officer-in-charge at the Makueni County Referral Hospital, said the injured are presently recuperating and in stable condition.

“This morning we received victims of a road accident onboard a school bus. We have received 5 of them, who are in stable condition. Four of them are undergoing further testing and one is being attended to by our surgeon at the emergency department,” he explained.

The body of the pupil who lost his life was transferred to the same facility’s mortuary as investigations into the incident continue.
