Police probe Mashujaa Day murder of veterinary doctor in Ngong
Police in Ngong, Kajiado County, are
investigating the death of a veterinary doctor which occurred under unclear
circumstances.
The body of Dr. Raphael Isoe Nyamwaya was
discovered last week during the Mashujaa Day holiday inside the house of a boda
boda operator.
The family says Nyamwaya left their residence
at 8am that day to Ngong Police Station to record a statement about his lost
phone and never returned. He was in the company of the boda boda operator,
since identified as Anthony Marwa.
”It was quite unfortunate, I didn’t expect to
receive bad news because he was well,” Nyamwaya’s widow Brenda Nyaboke said.
Kwamboka, who reported a missing person case
at Kajiado North sub-county Police Station, says they were in constant
communication that day.
On Friday, October 21, the phone calls were
answered by the 22-year-old boda boda rider.
“When I was trying calling my husband's
number, the boda boda guy was picking,” Kwamboka narrated.
Marwa, the boda boda operator, moved into a single
room in the area on October 3, but disappeared after the incident.
"Alipea neighbor number na akamwambia
nikienda uniangalie nyumba,” Susan Wambui a resident said.
Residents revealed that Nyamwaya and Marwa were
indeed seen together on Mashujaa Day in the company of an unidentified
individual
“Nilikuwa nafua nguo nikaona vijana wawili na
pikipiki wamebeba mtu na alikuwa anakaa ameishiwa na nguvu,” Lydia Mathew, a
neighbor said.
The Union of Veterinary Practitioners Kenya (UVPK)
wants the police to move with speed and arrest the killers of the young
professional, who had just completed his internship and was ready to serve the
nation as a veterinary surgeon.
”We are perturbed by the murder of one of our
professional members, Dr. Raphael Nyamwaya which happened in the environs of
Ngong town during Mashujaa Day,” Benson Kobore, the Chairperson of UVPK said.
The union Secretary General Purity Kiunga added:
“We want the case to be expedited so that justice is served.”
An autopsy report, according to the family,
revealed that Nyamwaya was hit on the back of his head with a blunt object.
Kajiado North Sub-County Police Commander
Joachim Mencha said investigations into the matter are ongoing.
