President Ruto arrives in Kisumu as Nyanza tour continues

President William Ruto on Friday evening arrived at the lake side city of Kisumu on day one of his tour of three Nyanza counties.

President Ruto landed at the Kisumu port some minutes past 5pm and was received by Governor Anyang’ Nyongo and County Commissioner Josephine Ouko.

Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron and his Nyando counterpart Jared Okello were also at the port to welcome the Head of State.

His convoy later snaked through the port towards the Kisumu State Lodge, not far away, where he's expected to hold a leaders’ meeting the same evening.

Sources told Citizen Digital that the President is expected to meet the local leadership led by the Governor, the seven MPs, Senator and the Woman Representative.

However, late into the evening, Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro sent out an SMS in the MCAs WhatsApp group that they had also been invited for the meeting with President Ruto and were required to urgently head to the State Lodge through Gate C.

The agenda of the meeting is still not clear but it's expected that the Head of State will be seeking to forge a working relationship with the local leadership despite the region being perceived as ODM leader Raila Odinga stronghold.

The President is on Saturday expected to head to Rarieda and Bondo sub-counties in Siaya for development tours, and it's still unclear whether he will have a meet the people tour in the lake side city before he heads to Siaya.
