Speaking at State House during the signing of performance contracts by Cabinet Secretaries on Tuesday, Ruto directed Roads and Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to ensure that she no longer works for the government.
“There was one lady in one of the Roads department, corrupt to the core, to the extent that she could not be transferred by anybody, even by the Minister, because if she was transferred she would go to court, buy the court process and make sure that she is returned, that is the kind of chronic that corruption has taken us,” Ruto said.
“I hope Kipchumba Murkomen, I hope that lady no longer works for the government of Kenya. We cannot have such. There are people who have made government offices their private property,” he added.
While saying that corruption has no place in his government, the president told his senior government officials they should, not at any instance exploit the resources meant for the people.
“Those kind of things we must put behind us, we are servants of the people of Kenya, we are not their masters and we serve at the pleasure of the people of Kenya, we don’t serve at their mercy,” said the head of state.
“A political culture of poor promise-keeping, as well as endemic corruption, has done significant damage to our social fabric by eroding trust in government and widening the rift that separates citizen’s aspirations from government policy.”
