With exactly three months to go until this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, Internal Security Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo was on the ground in Kitui County on Saturday, inspecting key infrastructure projects set to host the national event.

Dr. Omollo toured the under-construction Ithookwe Stadium — the main venue for the October 20 celebrations — assuring Kenyans that the facility would be ready on time.

The stadium, which will hold up to 10,000 people, is one of several legacy projects being fast-tracked to support the event and stimulate regional development.

“We are confident the stadium will be ready for Mashujaa Day. It is a project that symbolizes the government’s commitment to inclusivity and national unity,” said Dr. Omollo.

In addition to the stadium, Dr. Omollo visited the site of a new mini State Lodge in Kitui Town, intended to host visiting dignitaries, and inspected ongoing upgrades at Ithookwe Airstrip aimed at improving regional air connectivity.

He also reviewed several road improvement works across the county, part of a broader infrastructure uplift.

“These three major projects – the stadium, the mini State Lodge, and the airstrip – are not just for Mashujaa Day; they are investments in the long-term growth and visibility of Kitui County,” Dr. Omollo stated, reiterating the government’s pledge to equitable development across all regions.

The projects, he added, are expected to boost the local economy, enhance transport links, and strengthen Kitui’s capacity to host major national events in the future.

This year’s Mashujaa Day will be the first-ever held in Kitui County, marking a historic milestone for the region.
