President William Ruto has
nominated Mary Chebukati Wanyonyi, the wife of former IEBC boss Wafula
Chebukati, to chair the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRC).
Wanyonyi’s nomination is
subject to Parliamentary approval but should she be cleared by Parliament, she
will replace Dr. Jane Kiringai who has held the position for the past six years.
State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, in a statement to newsrooms on
Tuesday, said Wanyonyi’s nomination was recommended by the
Public Service Commission (PSC) after a rigorous recruitment process to find
Kiringai’s replacement.
“At the conclusion of the exercise, the PSC recommended to the Head of State and Government the appointment of any of the following persons: CPA Mary A.C. Wanyonyi; or Mr. Thomas Ludindi Mwadeghu; or Ms. Felicity Nkirote Biriri,” reads the statement.
“She is currently serving the
nation as the Senior Deputy Accountant General and Head of Accounting Unit in
the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development.”
Ruto has also nominated Dr. Phyllis Wambui Wagacha as a member of the Salaries and
Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Wagacha is set to replace Dalmas
Otieno, who resigned to vie in the August 2022 polls.
She was picked for the position
following a recommendation from PSC.
“The nomination follows a
competitive process in which the PSC recommended to His Excellency the
President, the appointment of either: Dr. Phyllis Wambui Wagacha or Mr. Japhter
Kiplimo Rugut, EBS," added Mohamed.
“The president has transmitted
the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration by Parliament, in
fulfilment of the legal requirements set out under our supreme law.”
