Armed bandits in the North Rift shot and killed three people including a senior chief and two National Police Reservists on Saturday as they were trailing the criminals who raided some five villages in Samburu County, making away with seven head of cattle.

The killing followed a night-long altercation between bandits and security personnel that saw three Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers injured and several bandits killed.

The early morning attack saw Porra Senior Chief Longer Letoluai killed during the altercation that followed yet another night of fighting after an ambush by the bandits in four villages that saw seven head of cattle stolen, and one cow shot dead in the crossfire.

Residents now want President William Ruto to order more boots on the ground saying that Samburu has continued to experience banditry despite the high level multiagency operation.

The villages that were struck by the bandits on Friday night through to Saturday morning include Lesilampa, Lekirishati, Lempoko and Lengoseg.

This even as the government said 39 firearms were recovered and more than 124 people arrested and arraigned as a result of the ongoing high level operation.
