Suspects who hosted 44 teenagers at house party to be charged with child trafficking
A Nairobi court on Tuesday ordered four suspects alleged to be the organizers of the teenage party which happened at Nairobi’s Mountain View Estate last week to be charged with, among others, child trafficking.
Milimani Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Caroline Muthoni issued the directive after declining to grant the prosecution’s request to have the suspects detained further for five days to complete investigations.
The suspects – Millicent Muthoni Kithinji, David Kibe Wambui, George Kamau Muthoni, and Michael Murega – were instead detained for one more day after their 7 days detention order elapsed.
The magistrate noted that what is remaining for the investigating officer is recording statements with the suspects and forensic analysis of the gadgets taken from them which she said can be done after they are charged.
“The suspects to be presented before court on on December 3, 2020 for plea taking,” the Magistrate ruled.
The investigators had sought to detain the four for five more days saying the case was complex in nature and probe was not yet complete.
According to the prosecution, the 44 teenagers at the party; 18 girls and 26 boys, were aged between 13 to 17 years and were drawn from Kiambu, Nairobi, and Machakos counties where investigators need to visit.
The suspects will be charged with child trafficking, exploitation of children, exposing children to pornography among other charges.
