Three Chinese nationals were Tuesday evening arrested by a team of Kenya Power security officers and DCI detectives in possession of 11.9 tonnes of assorted copper and another 13 tonnes of copper that was about to be exported.

According to Kenya Power the suspects assembled the seized copper from stolen and vandalised transformers across the country.

A multi-agency security team is said to have been trailing the illicit copper business that has left several homes without electricity.

"We arrested the three at the industrial area in Nairobi and we shall arraign them in court." Kenya Power's head of security of Nyaga said.

The three Chinese nationals are currently in police custody with detectives pursuing the leads of individuals linked to vandalism of transformers.

According to KPLC the power supplier has been losing billions of shillings to unscrupulous cartels vandalising transformers to mine copper.
