The Migori High
Court on Thursday rejected the bail applications of three police officers
charged with torturing and squeezing the genitals of a man they had detained at
Homa Bay Police Station on May 24, 2022.
The officers,
Peter Langat, Peter Nyakundi and Gilbert Aloka, stationed in Nakuru and Homa
Bay counties, allegedly deliberately and unlawfully restrained one Edward
Ondiek Amayo, before suspending his body between two tables, caning him and
using pliers to inflict harm to his genitals.
They all denied
charges when they appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Naomi Wairimu on
Wednesday.
The State counsel
denied the suspects’ pleas for bond on Wednesday, and on Thursday the court
gave February 9, 20204 as the date of hearing over issuing bond terms.
The State
prosecutor complained of witness interference and the suspects canvassing with
some of their colleagues who are part of witnesses.
The prosecution
has enlisted 13 witnesses, including Amayo and six law enforcement officers, to
testify in the case.
