Travellers spend night on Mombasa highway after trailer accident

The trailer fell and blocked the highway at around 6 pm on Sunday, and shortly after, heavy traffic was witnessed on the road. 

Immediate efforts to remove the truck from the road did not bear fruit due to the heavy rains witnessed in the area last evening.

This forced hundreds of travellers to spend the night on the road as fresh efforts to tow the truck began on Monday morning. 

The snarl-up is being witnessed ahead of President William Ruto’s visit to Makindu, Makueni County, where he is expected to lead a national tree-planting exercise.
