The United Democratic
Alliance has downplayed Kipruto Kirwa's move to the Azimio-One Kenya coalition.
Speaking on Citizen TV's
Daybreak Show on Monday, Soy MP Caleb Kositany said that Kirwa's move does not
dent their prospects towards clinching presidency in the August polls, arguing
that the seasoned politician has made a huge mistake.
"I think he has made a
very big mistake and he has made those mistakes before but let him be. I think
it his decision to bolt out but it has no dent on UDA we are soldiering
on," Kositany noted.
According to the MP, Kirwa's
move was unprecedented as he had communicated his defection to no one.
"I didn't see any signs
since I have not interacted with him for long so I wouldn't have read any signs
and its not an issue," said Kositany.
"He said that he has
gone with his one vote so whether that is what will give the 50 plus one then
we wish him well."
Kirwa who decamped to
Azimio on Sunday was UDA's
Vice-Chairperson.
The politician who spoke
during an Azimio rally on Sunday said that Odinga’s running mate Martha Karua had
introduced him to Raila camp.
“I called Karua yesterday and told her to take
me to Baba’s side.” Kirwa said.
“I Kipruto Arap Kirwa have
resigned as UDA vice-chairman. From the moment our team unveiled the running
mate last week, I knew that democracy would be suppressed if they get into
power,” Kirwa told the crowd.
“I waited for Raila to
announce his deputy because I cannot stay somewhere democracy is threatened.”
