Roots party presidential candidate George Wajackoyah on Monday pulled a surprise move after strongly
defending and heaping praise on his competitor in the State House race, Azimio La
Umoja One Kenya Presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
Speaking during IEBC's National Election Conference at KICC, Professor Wajackoyah said while other politicians
call each other names while on the campaign trail he would personally never insult
his competitors, especially Mr. Odinga.
He said Mr. Odinga had fought
for the political liberation currently being enjoyed in the country.
“You'll never hear
me talk against any presidential candidate in a debate. You'll never hear me
talk about Raila. Raila is an enigma, he is a man that I respect because I
stand on this platform because of the role he has played for our freedom,” said Wajackoyah.
He added: "I'm not
trying to say that I am supporting him but the good part of Raila makes some of
us stand here in freedom and yet you get some presidential candidates abusing
Raila and that one I say no."
Wajackoyah went further to reveal
that in his party he had banned the use of offensive utterances during
campaigns.
"I have also revoked and invoked that in my party. That
whoever is making speeches out there to not touch on Ruto he is a presidential
candidate for Christ’s sake let's respect him, on Mwaure," he noted
Wajackoyah also expressed
confidence in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) saying
that he holds no bone of contention with the commission even as the polls
approach.
"The IEBC we have a lot of respect and honour in you and
not a single day have you seen us raise any issue in any of the meetings we
have had with you and if any we have raised them silently."
