According to Wamatangi who was speaking on Citizen TV’s Day Break show on Thursday, he is not looking for a deputy on the basis of gender or tribe, but rather competency.
“I am essentially looking for a very competent person who is able to agree with me largely on ideas and the plans we have," he stated.
“Whether it’s a man, woman or whichever community they come from, that’s what I am looking for, and I am on the prowl so you can throw in your CV."
He noted that his ideal running mate is someone they share common ideals and a common vision for Kiambu county.
“The things that we have promised in my manifesto that we are going to do to the people of Kiambu I want a partner who can hold hands with me and make sure that we make it a reality,” said Wamatangi.
The senator further urged political leaders to lead by example in the fight against negative ethnicity by embracing multiculturalism in political alliances.
“When we sell that to our people - that we are two different people who speak different languages but ultimately the same person - then this story of considering so and so because they are Luo or Kisii will die. It has no place in modern-day Kenya,” he said.
Wamatangi will be seeking Kiambu’s top seat under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
He is in the race alongside incumbent Governor James Nyoro, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, County Assembly Speaker Stephen Ndichu, Thika MP Jungle as well as former governor Ferdinand Waititu.
