Nairobi City
Stars Chief Executive Officer Patrick Korir says his side are not in the title
race despite ranking second on the FKF-Premier League standings on 37 points,
seven adrift of league leaders Gor Mahia after 21 rounds of play.
Vincent Owino’s
34th minute strike on Saturday was enough to earn Simba wa Nairobi
all points on offer when they took on sixth-placed Bandari at the Mbaraki
Sports Ground, but Korir is cautious of the prospect of being drawn into this
season’s title showdown with Gor, saying they will take it one game at a time.
“We are not
focused on the title race. We want to tackle our matches one at a time and see
where we will finish at the end of the season.
“We are happy
with fact that we have already surpassed last season’s total haul of 34 with
just 21 matches. This feat means we are having a better outing by last season’s
standards.”
Korir says they
are not obsessed with their clash against the league leaders on Saturday at
Machakos Stadium, saying they will not give it special attention but will focus
on ironing out their weaknesses.
“We can only
take care of business from our end because how they will play is beyond us.
“We are not
going to be obsessed with this fixture since it is just like any other.
“Similar to the
way they will come for a victory, we’ll also be armed ready to fight for all
points.”
