Kenyan sprinters Ferdinand Omanyala and Samuel Imeta cruised to the Commonwealth Games 100m semis on Tuesday afternoon.

Omanyala who had a disappointing outing in Oregon at the World Championships clocked10.07 seconds, winning Heat 5 to bag a semis ticket while Imeta timed 10.12 seconds to also qualify from Heat 9 in front of Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme who finished in 10.08sec.

Omanyala, who holds the record as Africa's fastest man will be aiming to bag gold in the club games bearing in mind that he clocked 9.85 earlier this year while ending at the semis in the world championships in Oregon.

Omanyala was joined by Samuel Imeta of KDF in the semis after finishing second in heat 9, a personal best time of 10.12 behind Australian Rohan Browning who clocked 10.10sec.

The Kenyan sprinters will face defending champion Akani Simbine of South Africa, Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati and England’s Nathaniel Mitchel-Blake who also have the potential of winning the event.

In the women's category, Maximilia Imali booked her place in the semis after finishing third in Heat 2 clocking 11.30 behind Jamaican and world elite athletes Elain Thompson Herah and Imani Lansiquot of England.

Herah won the heat with a time of 10.99s as Imani clocked a season best of 11.15.

It was not a good day in office for Millicent Ndoro who missed the chance to qualify for the semis after finishing fifth in Heat 3 on a time of 11.76.
