Harambee Stars and Kenya Police goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has called on the national government and sports stakeholders to invest more in goalkeepers.

Speaking in an interview with Citizen Digital, Matasi noted that the country is currently well vested with in-field players hence, should now turn its attention to the goaltenders.

"The government should start investing in goalkeeping because all the other positions are sorted."The transition between in-field players and goalkeepers is very different. If we had two or three goalkeepers below the age of 18, playing out of the country that would be good for use. This will mean that we will be having a Kenyan goalkeeper playing in foreign countries during the transitions.

Matasi, however, commended FKF clubs for incorporating 'Under 18' players in the league and called on them to continue with the same spirit.

“We have an under-18 goalkeeper playing for Homeboyz in the Kenyan league something that shows that we are headed in the right direction. I would encourage other clubs in the league to emulate the same,” the shot-stopper opined.

He further urged the government to put more funds into facilitating goal training institutions and workshops in a bid to sharpen the talents and skills of goalkeepers.

“Investing in goalkeeping clubs, academies, or workshops would be a plus in the goalkeeping sector," he added.
