Kenya Tong-IL Moo-Do national team coach Ibrahim Ingalwa is
confident of retaining the Mombasa Open International Tong-IL Moo-Do
Championship title, despite the financial setbacks they have faced in their
preparations.
The coach was impressed with the good results team Jasiri posted
on the opening day of the Championship, clinching eight gold, eight silver and
12 bronze medals at the Aga Khan Academy.
“We are doing all we can to make sure we retain this title despite the
challenges our team has faced during preparations due to lack of funding from
the government. We however love the sport and we also want to do it for the
country,” said Ingalwa.
His sentiments were echoed by the president of the federation
Clarence Mwakio, who also pleaded with the Government to intervene and fund the
team.
“Despite the many challenges we were able to start the tournament. The
preparations have not been easy due to lack of financial support from the
government but we believe this matter will be adressed. We hope that before we
finish this championship on Tuesday we will have all the funds required to make
this event a success,” said Mwakio.
The federation wonders why the funds have not been released despite
following all the application rules and procedures required.
“We applied to the government last year as required. The
international delegates are here but unfortunately the larger part of
international judges and officials are not here because we could not facilitate
them to come,” Mwakio noted.
Team Kenya, popularly known as Jasiri, made a good start in the
Championship by bagging 28 medals during the first day of action at Aga Khan
Academy in Mombasa.
