Kanana Muthomi dominated the girls’ 11-12-year-olds category of the US Kids Local Tour tournament played at the Windsor Golf Hotel and County Club.

In a field of 15 players, Kanana had an impressive score of 73, 15 shots clear of second-placed Nkini Pasha, who scored 88 points.

There was, however, a three-way tie for the third position held by Bianca Dave, Simaloi Mbeya and Sophia Nesbitt, who all had 90 points.

Kanana now credits her aggression following her impressive performance at the tournament. She has, however, noted she faced difficulties going through the second nine on the 18 holes.

“It was a fine game; the first nine, where I was under two, was good, but the second nine was quite tough.

“My target was to play in the 60s, but I started being too aggressive with my birdie putts to help me make bogeys,” Kanana said.

The boys’ 11 category was decided through a playoff after Aarin Wabwire and Gitonga Gitobu tied on 84 points. Wabwire, however, claimed the victory after beating Gitobu in the first playoff hole.

“It was a good day though I didn’t play well in some holes. The difficulties I faced in the game were caused by careless mistakes I made,” Wabwire said.

Wabwire further said though he beat Gitobu in the playoffs, he was scared of him. According to him, Gitobu is a very good player and he won the match by sheer luck.

“My first shot was well; the second one also went on the green, something that built my confidence. I, however, got a bit scared when I saw my opponent get closer to me. Though the ball went in in the fourth shot, I did not have a good putt in the third shot,” Wabwire said.

In the boys’ 9-year-olds category, Niam Shah got the best score after getting 35 points to emerge the winner ahead of Ishaan Patel who came second with 39 points.

The third place was a three-way tie between Mikhail Ladak, Jerome Njuguna and Nick Njoroge who had 45 points.

Another three-way tie for third position was witnessed in the boys' 12 years category between Peter Gathogo, Kahir Ladak and Kristen Maina. Amar Shah emerged the victor in this category with 76 points, just one stroke ahead of his fierce competitor Aidan Gachora.

In the 13-14 years category, Andrew Gathere emerged the victor with 75 points. The second position saw four players - Maahir Patel, Yuvraj Rajput, Mitansh Thacker and Aarush Vara - tie on 80 points. The four were one stroke ahead of Tsevi Soni, who finished sixth.

Ashley Gachora had the overall second-best score of the day, playing level par 36 to win the Girls 9-10 years category. Ashley Muyela, who followed her, got 40 points.

Aria Dodhia and Aarna Mengi tied for fourth position with 41 points, while Zianna Khoda and Muthoni Kioi scored 45 points to tie for fifth.

The final tournament of the US Kids Local Tour will be played at the Muthaiga Golf Club on 5th November.
