KCB golf series heads to Kisumu, eyes on the final spot

The Luscious Par 72 Nyanza Golf Club will host the sixth leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour in Kisumu County this weekend.

The much-anticipated tournament is expected to attract 110 golfers as two teams aim to seal a spot in the grand finale to be held later this year.

The bank has held five legs of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour so far – Vetlab, Limuru, Railways, Eldoret and Kakamega golf courses.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s action, KCB Group Director Marketing and Communication Rosalind Gichuru expressed her excitement to host the tournament in the lakeside city.

“We are happy to head to the Lakeside city of Kisumu for the sixth leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.

So far, through our women and juniors golf clinics, we have reached over 500 participants, underscoring the impact we have on the counties we traverse.

Our objective is to reach more participants as the series continues. We are buoyed by the reach so far as it speaks to our commitment and deliberate efforts towards golf,” Gichuru said.

On his side, Nyanza Golf Club Captain Thomas Odongo said he is expecting to witness an interesting challenge in the upcoming KCB East Africa Golf Series.

“We welcome the KCB East Africa Golf series to one of the most challenging golf courses in the country. It will be interesting to see how various golfers will navigate the course. We hope to have a good outing,” Odongo said.

The Kisumu golf tour comes two weeks after Dr Catherine Aura led her team comprising of Ronald Omondi, Beatrice Otieno and Derek Mwaura to glory at the 9-hole Kakamega golf course in Kakamega County.

The team returned a combined score of 114 points to clinch the overall title at the 5th leg of the KCB East Africa Golf Tour.

Following the victory, the Aura-led team joins seven other teams that have qualified for the grand finale slated for November this year at the Karen Country Club in Nairobi.

The Kisumu edition will see the other two teams book a slot for the Pro-Am tournament.
