The Kenya Lionesses wrapped up their Rugby Africa Women’s Cup campaign in an emphatic fashion, thrashing Uganda’s Lady Cranes 49-0 at Stade Makis in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

With both teams heading into the fixture needing a win and hoping for a favorable result between South Africa and hosts Madagascar, it was Kenya who rose to the occasion, delivering a dominant display from start to finish.

The opening half was marked by handling errors and poor execution from both sides, but it was Kenya who settled first. The breakthrough came in the 19th minute when prop Natasha Emali touched down after sustained pressure from Kenya’s formidable forward pack.

The Lionesses’ patience and structure in the maul game gave them the upper hand, especially after Uganda's Proscovia Mukyala was sent to the sin bin for illegal play.

Kenya quickly took advantage of the numerical superiority. A forceful maul inside Uganda’s 22 saw Sheila Chajira finish off a pick-and-go initiated by lock forward Faith Livoi, adding Kenya’s second try.

Moments later, inside forward Nolin Khaleyi powered through Uganda’s line for another try, giving the Lionesses a commanding 20-0 lead at halftime.

Windy conditions made conversions difficult, with most attempts falling short.

The second half saw Kenya maintain pressure as Uganda’s defense collapsed further. A penalty try extended the gap before substitute Stellah Wafula added her name to the try-sheet with a well-taken effort.

A clever inside pass from Maureen Murita found vice-captain Edith Nariaka, who sprinted through to make it 42-0. Wafula returned to complete the rout with her second try, sealing a 49-0 victory.

The result sees Kenya finish second in the standings with two wins, 28-5 against Madagascar and this commanding win over Uganda, despite a narrow 19-12 loss to champions South Africa.
