The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team kicked off their Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) campaign on a high note after overpowering Cameroonian side F.A.P 83–64 in their opening Group B clash at the Abdullah Al-Faisl Hall in Cairo, Egypt.

The championship tipped off today and runs until December 14.

Placed in Pool B alongside F.A.P, First Bank of Nigeria and defending champions Ferroviaro Maputo of Mozambique, the Dockers showed dominance from start to finish.

KPA started strongly, taking the first quarter 23–15 before extending their lead with a 21–13 second-quarter performance to head into halftime with a 44–28 advantage.

After the break, the Dockers now under newly appointed Lebanese head coach Nabil Kabalan maintained their momentum, winning the third quarter 22–11. They faltered slightly in the final quarter, losing 25–17, but their earlier dominance ensured an 83–64 full-time victory.

New American signing Sara Nicole Dickey was outstanding for the Dockers, scoring a game-high 23 points, while fellow acquisition Alima Doumbia from Ivory Coast added 16 points.

KPA will rest tomorrow before facing Nigeria’s First Bank on Sunday, then wrap up their group fixtures on Tuesday, December 9, against defending champions Ferroviaro Maputo.

In an effort to boost their technical bench ahead of the continental campaign, the Dockers appointed Lebanese tactician Nabil Kabalan—assistant coach of the Libya National Team and Al Ahly Tripoli—as head coach for the WBLA tournament.

From the squad that featured in the Zone 5 qualifiers, KPA have retained the majority of their core roster but made two key changes.

Nigeria’s Okoro Ifunaya and Senegal’s Aminata Ly, who recently secured professional contracts in Lebanon and Portugal respectively, have been replaced by American guard Sara Dickey and American forward A'llexxus Johnson.
