Mathare United left 'confused' by tribunal ruling
Mathare
United CEO Jacktone Obure insists the club is still in the FKF Premier League
and are preparing for their first game of the season despite the Sports
Disputes Tribunal (SDT) decision.
The tribunal
announced on Tuesday it had quashed the decision of the Football Kenya
Federation National Executive Committee (NEC) to nullify 2021/22 season following
a petition.
That ruling,
which also disbanded the NEC, means all permutations from that season will
stand and is set to send Mathare and all other relegated teams to the lower
divisions.
Obure says
that the tribunal’s ruling has left a state of confusion stating that the
league is currently ongoing and currently headed to its fourth round of
fixtures.
“What I
understood from the ruling and I even sought the counsel of my lawyers is that
they overthrew NEC. The same NEC that was disbanded, has been organizing this
league that is in its third round.
“It means the
league that has just started is null and void. Because you can’t remove the
committee that is tasked with organizing it,” Obure said.
On the other
hand, Obure says that are still awaiting further direction from FKF and the CS
on what to do despite their stance on still being in the league.
“Currently
we are waiting for the way forward from FKF they are the only ones who can give
us directions because FIFA has already lifted the suspension. And through the
CS, they should tell us what to do.”
Mathare and
Vihiga Bullets were relegated from the top-flight last season.
