Meru School crowned County Sevens champs

Meru School are the new rugby sevens champions after they defeated last year’s finalists and regional winners Igembe Boys 22-14 in Thursday’s final of the County Games.

Meru coach Dennis Mokaya said the triumph was a result of hard work in training and charged his boys to look past the Regional Games into the nationals.

“We trained well and got the results we deserved. We will look back on the mistakes we made and work on them as we focus forward,” Mokaya said.

Favourites Igembe, who won last month’s Meru Open title, were left shell-shocked but Kelvin Kirimi said they will ook to replicate last year’s campaign that saw them lose at county level but went on to win the Regional competition.

Last year, Igembe lost to Miathene Boys in the County Games final and face a big task overcoming Meru School who will host the competition from March 18-25.
