Muvuti crowned Eastern Region rugby 7s champs

Muvuti High School are the new Eastern Region Games rugby sevens champions after defeating Katwanya High School 22-07 in the final.

Hosts Meru School finished second runners-up after winning their third-place playoff 29-10 against Dakabaricha.

Muvuti coach Dennis Wambua said he was happy following their triumph having led the team to a second-place finish last year.

“We had prepared well and always aimed to better last year’s results to become champions. I now urge my boys to remain focused on the Nationals and hopefully we can qualify for the East Africa School Games,” Wambua said.

Meanwhile the rugby 15s champions Miathene will play Kevote in the quarters on Friday after claiming preliminary stage opening wins against Kitui (37-07) and Matungulu (27-0).

Miathene head coach Patrick Mwika is optimistic of defending his title after easing into the last eight.

“We are happy for security quarter finals slot and we aim not less than a trophy and I hope all will go well,” Mwika said.

Other quarters include Powerhouse Kangaru who will play Abothuguchi, Chogoria Vs Kithima and Muvuti Vs Mukuuni.

In handball quarters boys category  Muindi Mbingu Vs Keru, Matuu day Vs Gikurune, Mbooni Vs Kiambere complex  and Yinthugu Vs Njeru.

In girls category Nguuku Vs Mavidini,  Kirigara day Vs Nduluni, Kwanthanze Vs Mituntu and Good hope Vs Ikisha.
