Mathare United head coach Leonard Odipo now says a KPL comeback desire is what motivated their recent win in a rescheduled round four fixture against Nairobi United at the Ruaraka Grounds on Wednesday.

Goals from Timothy Otieno and Meshack Ochieno gave the Slum Boys all three points to add to their lead at the top of the National Super League log standings.

"The game was fine, it was a game that we always knew was going to be tough because both teams are very good and we were both aiming for a win.

"It was really important to us that we keep the momentum going because of our promotion aspirations back into FKF Premier League. I really thank the boys for doing a good job, very good goals and it shows that the players are really getting what we are training," said Odipo.

The Slum boys are on a fine run of seven wins, a draw and a loss having played nine games so far.

Meanwhile Nairobi United tasted their first defeat since the start of the season a situation head coach Paul Odhiambo says was largely down to their woeful defending.

"On my side, defending wise there is a bit of loss in concentration and that has been our main undoing.

"We gave them a lot of space to express themselves but moving forward we will work on that and we will try as much as we can to cover spaces," said Odhiambo.

The Nairobi side have enjoyed a similarly fine run in the NSL having gone on 7-match unbeaten streak before finally falling to Mathare United.

Mathare sit four points clear at the top of the standings with 22 points, and are set to take on Kajiado FC next.

Nairobi United on the other hand are 7th on 13 points, and are set to travel away to Luanda Villa for their round 10 fixture.
