Service provider Tespok on Monday announced a partnership with Commonwealth 100m
champion Ferdinand Omanyala, geared towards raising awareness of the forthcoming
Tespok Autism Half-Marathon.
The race is
set to be held on Sunday, November 27.
Tespok
Chairman, Hillary Itela, said the main aim of the race is to “transform society
and tapping talents from all parts of the country.”
“We believe
that introducing our first ever autism marathon is our next step into not only
transforming our society but also mining impeccable talent and perspectives
that will bring creative and new solutions in Kenya at the global level.”
Omanyala,
in a statement read by his local manager Jama Noroddin, says the aspect of
community inclusivity is what led him into being a part of the race.
“When I
heard about the initiative I thought that it seeks to drive a need that would
have already been met. It is for this reason I am actively choosing to
participate in this to make a meaningful contribution to the society. I am who
I am today because of the community therefore we can’t underestimate the power
of it.”
The event
will kick off at the Nyayo Stadium and over 20 athletes have confirmed
attendance.
The race is
divided into four categories – the 21km, 10km,5 km, and 2km.
The winner of the 21km race stands a chance to walk home with a cash prize of KSh. 300,000.
