Tusker FC's unfortunate double misfortune in a disastrous week

East Africa Breweries Limited, EABL is known to bottle the finest brew in the region, Tusker beer being one of the brands that has won global awards as one of the richest and finest beers in the world.

Their football club, Tusker FC lived up to the companies reputation by bottling their impressive season in a span of seven days.

In a shocking turn of events, Tusker FC, one of Kenya's most successful football clubs, recently experienced a catastrophic end to their season. A series of bizarre occurrences led to their heartbreaking loss in the league title race, Gor Mahia winning the league on the final day.

A week later, Tusker were stunned 1-0 by Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Cup finals. Despite their commendable performances throughout the season, Tusker FC's dream of clinching silverware was crushed, leaving their fans in utter disbelief.

Gor Mahia's Last-Day Drama:

As the curtains came down on the FKF Premier League season, Tusker FC found themselves in a thrilling title race against long-standing rivals, Gor Mahia. With both teams vying for the top spot, the final day promised a nerve-wracking showdown.

Tusker were handed a clean through pass by Kakamega Homeboys in midweek as the Kakamega team twice came from behind to edge out Gor Mahia 3-2.

Tusker could not take advantage of that as they struggled to equalize against their bogey team, Posta Ranger in a 1-1 draw at their Ruaraka backyard.

Fate still had a cruel twist in store for Tusker FC on the final day of the season. Tusker needed a win and hope that Gor did not pick all three points against City Stars. In the opening half of the final day, Tusker were winning the title.

They were 2-0 up against already relegated Vihiga Bullets while Gor Mahia were kept at bay in a 0-0 draw in the first half. Things changed in the second half. Despite Tusker hammering Vihiga Bullets 4-0, Gor Mahia comfortably won 4-1 in their game despite a hiccup after going 1-0 down early in the second half against Nairobi City Stars. Gor clinched their record extending 20th title.

FKF Cup Heartbreak:

As if losing the league title in such a dramatic fashion wasn't enough, Tusker FC's misery continued in the FKF Cup. With hopes of redemption, they entered the tournament as favorites, aiming to salvage their season. However, the football gods had a different plan in mind.

In the finals, Tusker FC faced off against Kakamega Homeboyz, a team they were widely expected to beat. Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities, Tusker FC struggled to convert their chances into goals.

In a shocking upset, Kakamega Homeboyz capitalized on a defensive lapse, as Kevin Amwayi's dagger in the 73rd minute was enough to sink the brewers.

Tusker FC's defeat in the FKF Cup final not only dashed their hopes of silverware but also compounded the agony of their league loss. The combination of these two devastating setbacks left the team and their fans dejected, questioning what could have been.

"It is very very sad. Very sad. We have to go back and reflect (on the season) and get some players with character. Players who can withstand pressure and also sustain pressure. We have played football (in the final three matches of the season) like a team which cannot contain pressure. We must get players with character, players who know how to contain pressure and fight to win," said a vividly angry coach Robert Matano.

"We must strengthen the team and get quality players who can take the team forward. we tried with the ones we have but they were not good enough," he concluded.

Tusker FC's recent double misfortune in losing the league title to Gor Mahia on the final day and suffering defeat in the FKF Cup final against Kakamega Homeboyz will forever remain etched in the memories of their players and fans.

The unexpected turn of events highlights fine margins that separate triumph from despair.
