The Vihiga County Secondary Schools Sports Association Secretary Homer Mugalitsi wants coaches to uphold high standards of integrity to ensure no one benefits from the opportunity the platform gives participating students.

Mugalitsi says rising cases of impersonation and alteration of documents to allow non-students to participate in the games have been a thorn in the flesh of the organisers, who are warning of stern action to those found culpable.

Consequently, the body in charge of secondary school sports in Vihiga County has constituted a committee, tasked with scrutinizing students details, an exercise Mugalitsi says will sieve out non-students.

“There have been impersonation challenges beside age-cheating in secondary school competitions, an issue the documents committee will be handling. This will stamp out rogue students from this year’s secondary school games that will be staged in Luanda Sub-County in two weeks’ time,” Mugalistsi said.

“Only students who have been in the specific participating school team from November last year except for the Form Ones, will be eligible to enter the competitions, " he added, saying the documents committee has incorporated experts able to quickly discern malpractices.

Luanda and Emuhaya Constituencies will co-host this year’s County games, with Mumboha, Esiandumba, Ebusakami and Es’ssaba ground expected to host soccer games between June 19-22, 2024.

Esalwa will host rugby competitions, while Bunyore Girls’ grounds will welcome basketball and badminton teams.

At the same time, lawn tennis and table tennis games will be held at Ibubi Girls High School. Teams competing in volleyball and netball will be stationed at Itumbu and Mumboha grounds respectively.

“Luanda has proven able and ready to host this year’s County ball games. I call upon fans to turn out in their numbers in respective fields to cheer their teams upholding high levels of discipline because security begins with you and me,” said Mugalitsi.

Meanwhile, Hamisi and Sabatia Constituencies are expected to use the remaining time to the games to present their champions for the County battle.

Ebwali Boys and Ibubi Girls alias ‘Maroon Commandos will be flying the Luanda football flag, while Emusire Boys and Ebusiratsi’s St. Bakhitas Girls will be on duty for Emuhaya Constituency.

Madira Soccer Assassins and Vihiga Boys will be representing Vihiga Constituency.
