A 42-year-old fisherman drowned while three others survived after their boat was struck by heavy tides near Migingo Island in Lake Victoria on Tuesday night.
According to Sumba-Senye Beach Management Unit chairperson Mark Otieno, the group was on a fishing expedition when their vessel was overwhelmed by strong waves.
Otieno identified the deceased as Isaiah, adding that the three other fishermen were rescued by colleagues who were nearby.
He said the search for the missing body is ongoing, urging both the Migori County Government and national authorities to assist in the recovery efforts.
Otieno further cautioned fishermen to prioritize safety, stressing the importance of wearing life jackets during fishing activities.
