Bodaboda riders in Oyugis, Kasipul Constituency, in Homa Bay County have voiced growing concerns over escalating insecurity in the area.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, they called on local authorities to form a dedicated security team to investigate suspects linked to recent cases of murder and robbery with violence.

The riders blame security officials for delays in apprehending suspects, despite providing detailed information implicating certain individuals in ongoing criminal activities.

East Kamagak Bodaboda Riders chairperson, Alex Ogoro, expressed alarm over the resurgence of criminal incidents, especially following the recent attack and murder of three riders.

He urged security officials to assert their authority and crack down on the emerging rogue elements.

Ogoro highlighted that a syndicate of gangs is operating within Oyugis Town, targeting riders with new motorbikes during night hours.

“The gangs attacks, robs, and often injure a rider before escaping with their motorcycles. Over the past two months, three riders have been killed, and more than five others have been assaulted and injured in similar incidents.”

Rachuonyo South Sub County Police Commander, Philemon Saera, confirmed the arrest of one suspect believed to be involved in a recent attack on a rider.

Saera assured the public that the police are working to address the insecurity and disclosed that a joint security meeting with the riders is scheduled to devise lasting solutions to curb the criminal activities.
